Ammonium cerium nitrat adalah kompleks berwarna jingga-merah yang sangat larut dalam air dan memiliki daya oksidasi yang kuat. Senyawa ini terutama digunakan sebagai katalis dan oksidan untuk sintesis organik, inisiator reaksi polimerisasi, dan zat korosif untuk sirkuit terpadu.
